An introduced parasite is affecting native mud crabs in Chesapeake Bay. We're seeking volunteers to assist with the hand-collection of mud crabs as part of a long-term parasite study. Volunteers will sort through shell-filled collectors in search of the crabs. Collection will take place June 20-22 and August 22-24, 2014. We can accommodate a maximum of 12 volunteers per day. We prefer volunteers 15 years old or older, younger volunteers are welcome with parental supervision, but please note this project is not appropriate for young children. Transportation to survey locations is provided for full-day volunteers from the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, MD; please note there is no public transportation available to the center.
