Curio uses community-based information sharing and mapping to help people explore and learn about the trees in their local area and share their own discoveries. For urban areas in particular, this helps to create a complete picture of the urban forest, which is crucial for improving biodiversity, local environment and quality of life for communities. As well as recording environmental information, we are interested in recording the cultural heritage of trees through the stories and observations that people associate with them to better understand and quantify the social significance trees play within communities. The data collected is made publicly available for analysis through Curio's analytics tools. Learning resources and community support are also available to help with identification of species and making assessments of tree health, potential pests, issues etc. Curio aims to provide a global platform for the sharing of urban and community tree data so that people can get started from wherever they are and learn from and explore tree care and monitoring projects taking place around the world.
