Do you enjoy way finding and trail blazing adventures? Volunteer with The San Diego River Park Foundation's River Assessment Field Team to perform reconnaissance on different segments of the San Diego River! By volunteering to document river threats, you can be a citizen scientist and help improve the future of our river. The River Assessment Field Team uses a mapping app (training provided) to collect and share data about threats affecting the River, including trash, storm water debris, and illegal dumping. Collected data is used by trash removal teams, researchers, community members and policy makers. During this period of program growth, additional dates and times for RAFT events have not yet been set, but the current Team works on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Tuesday of each month from 9am to noon. If you are unavailable on Tuesday mornings, but still interested in getting involved, please let us know as we will likely be adding additional dates and times soon. Meeting locations vary, with weekly meeting instructions disseminated via email. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Closed-toed shoes are required. Sun protection, water and a snack are highly recommended. This event is not open for community service hours verification (but college credit may be available). This event is ideally suited for volunteers looking for a regular commitment. The ideal volunteer will be comfortable with app-based technology, off-trail hiking through dense vegetation, and working near people experiencing homelessness.
