Central Wisconsin Riverkeepers
|Goal||Protect Wisconsin's clean water for future generations.|
|Task||Monitor streams once a month.|
Monitor the waters of six counties in Central Wisconsin: Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, Waushara, Waupaca, and Winnebago. We are a waders on, in-the-muck environmental group.
Performed monthly on local waters within these six counties, we test for dissolved oxygen, turbidity, temperature, and stream flow. At the beginning of summer we also perform a Biotic Index and habitat assessment. Information is entered into a state database for tracking purposes.
|How to Join||
These simple tests take about an hour to conduct. We typically work in teams of two to four people; we recommend the camaraderie and stream-side fellowship.
We will train and support all interested volunteers. We supply the necessary measuring tools, forms and charts.
You will need access to our computer database to enter data at your own pace; although immediate input is desired for record keeping purposes.
To sign up to become a River Keeper and to attend the training session contact John Gremmer (920-582-7802) or Rick Fahrenkrug (920-725-0255).
As this is an outdoor activity, participants will need transportation to their monitoring site and local maps. Waders or hip boots are also required.
You will need Internet access in order to add your reports to our database.
