Main Project Information
Goal Enable Cities to better manage & protect urban forests.
Task Find, add or update trees, or calculate the value of a tree.
Where GreenprintMaps

GreenprintMaps presents the urban forest of the Greenprint region – Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, El Dorado, Sutter, and Yuba Counties. Everyone is invited to join us in mapping all of our trees – in parks, on streets, at schools, in parking lots and at home. You can find trees, add trees, ask a question about a tree, and calculate the value of a tree. GreenprintMaps is fun and easy for everyone. Cities can better manage their trees, planners can protect trees, scientists can combat tree pests and diseases, and homeowners can share their tree stories. We hope you’ll help us grow the best regional urban forest in the nation.

How to Join

If you want to explore the project first, search the database of trees already on GreenprintMaps by address, species, advanced filters like tree characteristics and condition, or by browsing the map on the website.

To contribute to the site, create a free account at which will give you access to these steps.

1. Add a Tree - The Greenprint Maps grow as citizen foresters like you add trees. Show a tree's location by putting a dot on the map, then provide as much information as you can.

2. Edit a Tree - Check out the facts about the trees around you and update when you can. Don't forget to add alerts! With your help, we'll track changes in the urban forest and watch it grow.

Required Gear

A computer with Internet access enables you to search, add, and update tree information.

Head outside with a notebook and pen to write down the details about a tree. A digital camera isn't necessary but may be useful to document tree features or take images to upload to the database.
