Send us your skeletons
|Goal||Assess status of Western Australia's fishes|
|Task||Send in your fish skeletons from Western Australia|
|Where||Between Kalbarri and Esperance, Western Australia, Western Australia|
Send us your skeletons is a program running in Western Australia, which asks recreational fishers to donate fish skeletons to the Department of Fisheries Western Australia.
The skeletons (frames) are used to assess the status of our important demersal and nearshore fish stocks.
The assessment results are essential for the Department to be able to make science-based decisions to sustainably manage our fisheries.
|How to Join||
You can play a key part in our research by donating your fish skeletons to help our long-term monitoring program of fish stocks.
Filleted skeletons (frames) of specific indicator species (see www.fish.wa.gov.au/frames for list) with the heads and guts intact can be donated by placing them in a bag. They can be fresh or frozen.
Place a label in the bag with your name and address (so we can send you research feedback and enter you into our prize draws), the date and location of your capture (shore catch: general location; boat catch: latitude/longitude or distance and bearing from port and the name of the port). Information you provide about the location of your catch is confidential and only used for research purposes, so you can continue to keep your favourite fishing spots secret.
You can drop off your fish frames at our offices or participating stores (see www.fish.wa.gov.au/frames).
