The Clean Air Council Climate Tracker, developed in partnership with Code for Philly, is developing mobile sensors that can be mounted to city buses and bikes and report pollution and climate-related in real time to be shared as Open Data, for use by app developers and researchers. With this data being openly available, app developers can empower citizens to avoid areas of high pollution, while also demonstrating the local effects of climate change. Researchers will be able to use an unprecedented level of data to study the effects of climate change on microclimate. This data will be linked with OpenTreeMaps to demonstrate trees' impact on microclimate, as well as quantify their capacity to mitigate the effects of climate change in an urban setting.
